LO4: KTA 1 – Images imported and edited in a technically proficient manner

 

To get from the first picture to the second, I added a blur so the focal point would be on the train tracks. I cropped the image and changed the hue and saturation to make the image more colourful.

I did this as it makes the picture look more visually appealing.

The bright colours represent creative and digital Sheffield, and the creative and digital people who enter and leave Sheffield through the trains.

I made the image of the Lyceum black and white, I then cut around the sign and added colour to it, so it would make it stand out, I did this to portray the uniqueness of the building, as there is nothing else like it in Sheffield. I added a blur to make the sign the focal point and then added an oil paint effect on the black and white background as it looks aesthetically pleasing.

 

 

I cropped the first image and then changed the colour curves of it so it is brighter, making the details in the photograph easier to see.

 

 

I cropped the image and added blur so the focal point of the image is the pool of water and the fountain. I changed the colour curves as the original image is too dark.

 

 

I cropped the image so you can see the subject easier.

 

I added a filter called "poster edges", this made the image look slightly 'cartoonish' and visually appealing.

 

 

 I then added another filter called 'smudge stick', this made the small details in the image easier to see and made the image aesthetically appealing and interesting.

 

 

 

I cropped this image so the picture of David Attenborough would be larger, I wanted it to be clear that this is a picture on the side of a wall, so I didn't crop everything out.

 

 

I then cut around the badges on the jacket of David Attenborough and made the rest of the image black and white, so the badges would stand out.

 

I then changed the brightness levels and colour curves of the image, to make the image look more appealing.

 

 

 

I cropped the original image so the detail on the market stalls would be clearer.

 

 

I then cut round them and made everything else on the image black and white, so the market stalls stand out and become the focal point and added a blur as it gave a sense of excitement to the picture.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

LO3: KTA 2 – All images captured in raw format

This picture shows an overview of creative and digital Sheffield.
In this photograph you can see the 'kettle pots', the showroom, Hallam University and many other creative and digital venues.


This structure is found at the train station, it is creative as it is unique, and creates a sense of originality around the train station.

 



The focus of this photograph is the Lyceum, this is a creative building as it is home to many creative shows.

 

 

This photo shows a number of creative structures, the pool of water, the metal wall, and the fountain. The water dripping from the pool creates an interesting effect.

This is a picture of well-known English broadcaster and naturalist David Attenborough. His face has been drawn on the side of a building and he has badges on his jacket saying various phrases, such as "I love nature" and "I love Sheffield". This picture is creative as it is unique and artistic.

This is a car park in Sheffield, it is known as the "cheese grater" due to it's odd design, this car park is creative and digital as it is unique and interesting.

This photo is creative and digital as it shows how Sheffield can adapt to the different events and happenings that take place in the city.

This picture of train tracks represents the creative and digital movement that has happened in Sheffield. For example, the people who go and come into Sheffield who work and specialise in creative and digital fields.

This is the Arts Tower in which University students practice art, a huge amount of creativity happens in this building.

Professional photographers.

Chris Saunders came in and some pupils presented various photos taken. These images were related to our task and Chris Saunders gave some feedback and tips on capturing and editing photos.

Duncan Philpott is a Sports Photograper. He is one half of the Sheffield based duo called Steel City Media. Duncas path into photography started at 13 when he was looking through photography magazines, Flickr, Fourms and the web. Duncan did Photogrpahy AS Level and a Maths Degree. His hobbies are cycling. Duncan has been doing photography at a professional level for 3 years.

LO 3: Settings I used

The settings highlighted on the screen are the setting I used and changed to capture the desired effects on my images.

I put my raw images into iPhoto and pressed the 'info' tab. This then presented to me a table in which displays various settings that the camera was on when the photograph was taken.

I took this picture, knowing that I would edit it later to portray the creative tasks set in Sheffield.

The ISO was 500 which is a high sensitivity. The lens of the camera was 55mm, the shutter speed was 1/125 and the aperture was f/5.6 which is medium.

I took this picture because it is an important place in terms of creativity. The ISO was 100 which is low sensitivity. The lens was 18mm which is quite wide so it captures the full building. The shutter speed was 1/125 which allowed me to take take a clean photograph. The aperture of the image was f/13 which captured a desired amount of light.

I took this image at the train station as it represents the creative people who come and go out of Sheffield. In this image I captured the leading lines of the train tracks as if they were leading you onto a journey in Sheffield. The ISO of the image is 125 which is of low sensitivity, the camera lens was at 29 mm and captured the train track in the detail I desired. The aperture of the photograph is f/8 and the shutter speed was 1/40, this gave a very focused and cleared image.

I took this photograph to represent the different forms of creativity. The photograph shows the entrance of the Lyceum, that is a very well known place in Sheffield due to the creative plays and performances that happen here. The ISO is 250 and allowed the desired light in. The lens focus was 24 mm which caught the sign in great detail. The aperture was f/11 and the shutter speed was 1/30.

In this photograph I captured the iconic 'Cheese grater' car park. I wanted to portray the creativity of this unique design. The ISO was a low sensitivity, the lens focus was 41 mm, this captured the great detail of the metal pieces on the structure. The aperture of the photograph is f/6.3 and the shutter speed is 1/100. I captured a leading line that leads to the sky, you can see this around the middle of the car park.

This is a sculpture that is located in at the Sheffield train station, the leading line of the sculpture directs you to the inside of the station. The ISO on this image was 400, this means that it was extremely sensitive. The aperture was f/11 and the shutter speed was 1/60.

I misplaced the other 4 images and were unable to put them into iPhoto to find out the exact details.

LO3: KTA 1 – Minimum of 10 images in raw format

 

I organised the photographs in these folders.

Photography sessions.

In the first photography session I went up to the lyceum and the crucible to take pictures. I also went to the train station to take pictures of the fountains around the station. Whilst on this session I experienced some problems as I forgot to bring the correct lens, however the pictures came out quite good.

In the second session I visited the town centre and took some pictures of the various stalls which were set up for the Christmas festivals. I had no issues in this session unlike the previous session as I had taken the correct lens and equipment I needed.

In the third session I went around Sheffield in the city centre and took the rest of the pictures I needed to capture.I had taken the correct equipment with me so there was no problems.
