LO 2 - The planning

Permissions :
The buildings I was shooting were the Lyceum, The Arts's tower and a cafe with street art on the side of it, I chose the Lyceum because it is an interesting and unique building that offers creative entertainment in the form of plays. The Art's tower is an inspiring location and I choose it because a lot of creative activity happens here in the form of paintings, sculptures etc. I also shot the cafe as the street art portrays a creative side of Sheffield, and it is quite rare that you will see art like this on the side of a building in a major city. If I were to use any of these photographs in an exhibition or in a public event, I would have to contact the owner of the sites and seek permission. If the owner refuses to grant permission I would have to take photographs of other sites instead of these.

Props :
For all the sites I decided to take the image without props, capturing them in their natural state. I have planned to use natural light without the use of fake lighting as I think all the images I am capturing will be more aesthetically pleasing this way.

Models :
I will need one model for only one image. All the other images will not include any models or props.
This is the call sheet signed by the subject. I have no other documentation as I didn't use any other models in my images.

LO2: KTA 1 – Concept description

For this task I was asked to capture 'Creative & Digital Sheffield'. To do this I will take a series of photographs, around 10 to 15 to represent 'Creative & Digital Sheffield'.
I will go to various locations which specialise in creative and digital scenarios and take photographs of the things happening there. I will ask permission first to make sure I don't do anything illegal.
An example of a location I will photograph is the Electric Works, this is a well known creative and digital venue in Sheffield. I will use a variety of locations and a variety of photography styles. I will use  a mixture of landscape, portrait and macro photography. This project comes with a lot of freedom which allows me take pictures of nearly anything from people working on computers to graffiti on the side of street walls.

LO2: Photography definitions.

Aperture:
In photography the aperture is the measurement that allows or disallows light in through the iris of the camera. If the aperture is wide then it allows a lot of light in, if the aperture is small then not a lot of light will enter. Aperture is measured in a f/. If the f stop is f/16 it will let less light in compared to f/1.4 that will allow a lot of light in.

Shutter Speed:
The shutter speed is what determines the time the shutter stays open.
A slower shutter speed will result in a longer exposure time. Together the aperture along with shutter speed determine the amount of light reaching the sensor on the camera.  Shutter speeds are measured in fractions of a second or seconds e.g. ½ or 1/8000 .

ISO:
If the ISO is a low number, the camera will be less sensitive to light. However a higher ISO number results in a high sensitivity on the camera. The device in the camera which allows you to change the  sensitivity is named the image sensor.
If you lack light when taking a photograph, you would have to raise the ISO so it would capture more light. ISO’s such as 450 are used when there isn’t a lot of light.

Lens:
The lens is what allows the light to travel through the camera before it reaches the sensor. The different types of lenses have different properties and allow the user to have different zoom lengths. An example of a lens is a macro lens that is useful when capturing small details as it has a large zoom.
